New Postage Stamp for the Exhibition - Malá Strana – 750 Years, Langweil’s Model
On 14 March 2007, Czech Post issued a commemorative postage stamp with a face value of CZK 7.50 for promotion of the World Stamp Exhibition PRAGA 2008. The stamp promotes the urban historical zone Malá Strana (Lesser Town). The stamp uses a detail from Langweil’s model of Prague, a unique work of art, a document and a rarity. Built in 1826-1837, the model’s creator Antonín Langweil (1791-1837) captured with maximum detail the colors of the façade, the symbols, signs and even numbers on the buildings, and the various types of roofs. The author of the creative design is Václav Kučera, and the engraving was created by Miloš Ondráček.
