New Postage Stamp – Vrtba Garden (Vrtbovská zahrada)

On 11 October 2006 another stamp was released to promote the exhibition PRAGA 2008 – Vrtba Garden in Prague – Malá Strana. One of the most beautiful baroque gardens in Europe, it was designed in the Italian-style garden in 1715 - 1720 by the architect František Maxmilián Kaňka for the Count of Vrtba. Participating in its decoration were such important artists of the high baroque as the sculptor M. B. Braun, the painter V. V. Reiner and the plasterer T. Soldati. The stamp, with a face value of CZK 7.50, depicts some of the decorative sculpture with a view to the Vrtba Palace and the tower of the St. Nicholas Church. The artistic design of this issue is by Karel Zeman, and the engraving is by Jaroslav Tvrdoň.
